To encourage women to take up science and promote more women scientists in research domain, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati will organize “International Training Programme on Leadership & Career Development for Women Scientists & Technologists” from 2nd- 6th September 2015. The Programme will be organized in collaboration with Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), New Delhi.
Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Project Coordinator, DST, New Delhi informed that DST has a special Scheme ‘KIRAN’ for women and this is a part of it. She further added that she had seen many experienced women scientists who have the potential to be leaders. Many chooses to be one and others bow out owing to adverse circumstances. Sometimes they lack confidence to take over bigger roles or the pressure of family makes it hard for them to take a call.
Emphasizing the need for networking and mentoring in scientific field, Dr. Sharma said that effective negotiation, proposal writing, grantsmanship and funding opportunities for women scientists will also be a part of the training. She also expects more participation from the North East.
Several national and international experts will conduct sessions on different topics. Interested women scientists/technologists working in various Government, Public and Private Scientific/Research institute may apply. Visit DST or IIE websites for more details.
