Himalayan peaks in NE out of bounds for tourists
Assam Tribune | R Dutta choudhury | Guwahati, Jan 23
Though an international tourism fair was held in Guwahati to showcase the North East region to the world, the Government of India has not yet opened the Himalayan peaks in Arunachal Pradesh to mountaineers and adventure tourists citing security reasons just because those are located along the international border with China. Interestingly, the peaks located along the border with China in the other parts of the country are open for mountaineers and adventure tourists and only this part of the country is overlooked.
Highly placed official sources told The Assam Tribune that opening of the Himalayan peaks in this part of the country for mountaineers and adventure tourists could have given a big boost to tourism sector in this part of the country. But raising the Chinese bogie, the Government of India has not granted permission for the civilians to climb the peaks.
