'Gutkha makers flouting SC norms'
Nagaland Post | Guwahati, Sep 7 (Agencies)
A survey conducted by the Voluntary Health Association of Assam (Vhaa) revealed that various tobacco and ‘pan masala’ manufacturers were flouting guidelines issued by the Supreme Court five months ago.
The Supreme Court had issued a ban on the use of plastic pouches of tobacco products, which stated that manufacturers of ‘gutkha’, tobacco, ‘pan masalas’ were restrained from using plastic pouches.
Various big and small manufacturers of tobacco and ‘pan masalas’ were flouting the norms as highlighted in a recent survey conducted by an NGO Voluntary Health Association of Assam(Vhaa).
The survey shows that rules were being flouted and the government agencies were turning a blind eye to the situation. Neither the companies nor the traders and retailers were being questioned by the authorities concerned for the same.
