Expert roots for reforms - Regional diseases need local approach, says director

The Northeast is a diverse region with different subsets of disease patterns and a high preponderance of lifestyle diseases. For this reason, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) here has called for a regional and localised approach to treatment.
Research and applications to combat diseases have to be localised, he said. The Northeast is known as a hub of several species of medicinal plants, which have been relied upon by traditional healers.
