Drive against illegal sex identification before birth

Many unauthorized installation of ultrasound machines in private clinics were Tuesday detected during the drive against illegal practice of sex identification of unborn baby by officials of the state family welfare department.
State health and family welfare department has been conducting the drive against unregistered installation of ultrasound machines in private clinics as part of several measures to check female foeticide in the state.
The practice of female foeticide after identifying sex of the unborn baby with the help of ultrasound machine is punishable under law. The offenders can be either sentenced to jail or fined or both under the Pre Natal Diagnostic Technique Act 1994, he said.
