Dimapur: NE's latest ethnic flashpoint

Last week's lynching of a rape accused by a mob in Nagaland's Dimapur town has brought into focus a number of issues ranging from tension between locals and outsiders, trade rivalry and border disputes between Nagaland and Assam.
Many in Assam and Nagaland feel the killing of Khan is a culmination of simmering tension between the Nagas and migrants from other states who have settled in Dimapur, Nagaland's commercial hub situated close to the Assam border. The Nagas claim that are an estimated five lakh migrants in the state, whose population is hardly about 19.79 lakhs.
