Cry Of A Dying River...39
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river whose past had been ravaged
A pristine past when/where nature and nurture co-exist
A glorious past when/where clean meandering water adorned the stream
The river whose present is threatened to the point of obliteration
Threatened to die an unnatural death
The river whose future is held at ransom
A future stolen by 'greedy minds'
The river that imagines a world
A world of 'rehumanised' human beings.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that has been ruined by 'rapacious developers'
Oblivious of the irreparable damage done to Loktak's eco-heritage
Perilous to the survival of Sangai
The river that is umbilically linked to Loktak
The river that can restore the naturalness of luminous Loktak
The river whose preservation is a sine qua non to conservation of Loktak
The one and only river that can ensue Sangai
The 'dancing deer' dance again
Floating freely fearlessly on the 'floating Phumdis'.
