Corruption hindering NE development: Lt Gen Sinha
Assam Tribune | R Dutta Choudhury | Guwahati, Sep 3:
Corruption is one of the reasons for the underdevelopment of the North East region and there is little hope of strong action to check corruption during the tenure of the present United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government because of the fact that a number of major scams took place during the tenure of the Government. This was the observation made by former Governor of Assam and Jammu and Kashmir, Lt Gen (Retd) SK Sinha.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Lt Gen Sinha said that like all parts of the country, the North East region has also been hit badly by corruption, which, in turn, affected the development of the region. He pointed out that because of corruption, the funds earmarked for development activities are not utilized properly and as a result, the development projects have taken a backseat.
