Condemns killing of KNO/KNLF leader and shooting of his wife
Imphal, the 4th August, 2017
The Thadou Students’ Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) strongly condemns the barbaric act of bombing and shooting at Tuibong, Churachandpur on August 8, 2017, in which Tonglenlal Haokip alias Lalmoi, general secretary of Kuki National Organisation/Kuki National Liberation Front (KNO/KNLF), was assassinated and his wife injured.
KNO/KNLF in their press release on August 3 signed by its Information and Publicity Secretary, Lhumlheng Kuki, has claimed responsibility for the act.
The government must bring the culprits to justice and take action according to the law of the land. TSA is pained to see the killing spree in Thadou community, and more so to see that even unarmed innocent women and children are not spared; the other recent incident being the cold-blooded murder of an innocent teenage girl Nengneingah Khongsai by KNO/KNA at Moreh on July 23.
We would like to earnestly urge all militant groups to refrain from killing and violence, but to respect human lives and work with the people and their counterparts to bring peaceful solution to the problem of their people.
As a society, we don’t deserve to live in violence and fear, and we are no less human and no less desirous of freedom and peace than other people. Should the present trend of murder and violence, where even innocent children and women are not spared and where everyone live in fear, then the future of Manipur society is bleaker than ever.
While the engagement of SoO signatory groups in killing and violence in the community in breach of the ground rules of SoO agreement is totally unacceptable and abhorrent, the Central and State governments must meaningfully and sincerely engage them in political talks to bring a permanent solution to the problem in public interest.
