Children of illegal foreigners from Myanmar languish in Manipur jail
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, May 10
Three-year-old Tombi doesn’t know why her parents are in jail but she is happy to be with her mother and two siblings inside their “small room.” Tombi’s younger sister, Noor Jahera, was born inside Imphal’s Sajiwa Jail three months ago and became the first foreigner to be born in a Manipuri prison.
In August last year, 16 Myanmarese nationals, including two young mothers, were arrested from different parts of Thoubal district during a drive against illegal foreigners. Tombi’s parents — 29-year-old Md Kamal Sadique and Parbin Nesha, 20 - were among them. All of them have been languishing in Sajiwa Jail ever since.
