TODAY -
Chasing a wonderland
Rashmi Elangbam *
Before the clock strike twelve
Before the sun rose bright
I woke up
to chase the fading stars
to chase the rising sun
So I ran and ran
to go far far away
to go beyond the horizon
to a land
where the Ferris wheels never stop
where the smiles of the clowns never fade
and in that moment
I could see
lights of all colours
flickering every second
like stars in the northern sky
I could hear
the laughter of the children
the ringing of the bells
the beating hearts of the people
that was filled with joy
and no longer did I hear a broken heart
no longer had I ever saw
tears on the cheeks of another.
