Centre reports rise in violence in North-East

An increase in violence in the Northeast last year after two years of “substantial reduction” has prompted a parliamentary panel to contend that socio-economic development may be the key solution.
A report submitted by the parliamentary standing committee on home affairs in the Rajya Sabha yesterday states that Assam and Manipur accounted for the bulk of incidents of violence in the region last year. This was reported to the panel by the chief controller of accounts in the ministry of home affairs on March 28 this year.
