Central boost to NE agro-textile industry
Seven Sisters Post | Guwahati (Jan 17):
In a bid to promote the agro-textile industry in the Northeastern region, the Center on Thursday announced a special package of Rs55 crore for the development of the sector. The Union minister for commerce, industry and textiles Anand Sharma announced the scheme on usage of agro-textile in the region with a five year budget. Earlier, a pilot scheme worth Rs500 crore for Geotextiles was announced in the Budget last year.
“Viewed in tandem with our recent policy announcement of 51 per cent foreign direct investment in multi brand retail with its attendant benefits of reducing post-harvest agriculture and horticulture losses, the two schemes together can change the trajectory of development in the Northeast region,” Sharma said while delivering a speech at the TechnoTex event at New Delhi.
