CM skips Sadar Hills at meet
The Telegraph | Imphal, Aug. 13:
Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh skipped the issue for the demand of Sadar Hills district and scarcity of commodities when he addressed the state function of Patriots’ Day held at Bir Tikendrajit Park here today.
The state observes this function every year on the day Bir Tikendrajit, general Thangal and three other persons were hanged by the British in 1891 for waging a war against the Raj. Ibobi Singh, in his barely five-minute speech, only paid tributes to Manipuri heroes and did not say anything about the Sadar Hills strike and its fallout.
Barely one-and-a-half hours before the state function, the police and Assam Rifles recovered a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) planted near a bridge at Lilong in Imphal West along the Imphal-Thoubal highway and safely exploded it.
As the government observed Patriots’ Day, elected members of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council decided to take the fight for the creation of Sadar Hills district to the Centre.
