Bid to check underutilisation of NE funds

Seeking to address the problem of underutilisation of central funds, the Union Government has taken up a plan to review plan schemes of seven select Central Ministries, which have potentialities in the North-east.
The ministries that have been selected include Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministries of Tourism, Food Processing Industries, Health and Family Welfare, Textiles and Department of School Education and Literacy.
In the last finance year, allocation from 52 Central Ministries was to the tune of Rs 15,170.08 crore, while the allocation to the NES was Rs 16,229 crore. The NES could spend Rs 14,692 crore, leaving Rs 1705.7 as unspent balance.
