Bangla elections may impact NE militancy
Assam Tribune | R Dutta choudhury | Guwahati, March 17
The result of the Bangladesh elections due later this year will have an impact on the militancy scene in the North East region, while, the withdrawal of the American forces from Afghanistan is unlikely to make much difference to the growth of Islamic militancy in India. This was the observation made by noted security analyst RN Ravi, who was a Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Ravi said that if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies regain power in the neighbouring country, it would give a major boost to the morale of the militant groups of the region, while, the anti-India radical forces would also be strengthened. During the BNP rule in Bangladesh, the militants were allowed to use the territory of the neighbouring country as safe haven.
