Assam Rifles Ex- Servicemen Rally on 22 April 2017
Assam Rifles Ex Servicemen Rally was conducted by IGAR (S) at Imphal under the aegis of DG AR on Saturday. This was the second time that a rally of such magnitude was conducted in the history of Assam Rifles in the state of Manipur.
The mega event was presided over by Major General Virendra Singh, VSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South). The rally saw a mass participation of 678 ex-servicemen including World War II veterans, Veer Naris, widows and dependents from all the districts of Manipur.
The rally commenced with a welcome song by the children of the Assam Rifles Public School, Mantripukhri. Major General Virendra Singh, VSM, IGAR (S) at the outset welcomed all the Veterans to the rally and conveyed special gratitude to Veer Naris & Veterans of WW-II for their attendance. He emphasied that, Assam Rifles as an org is focused on the welfare of the veterans and is committed to helping the Veterans lead a dignified life.
He said that the conduct of Pension Adalat & Open House were aimed to address the pension related grievances of the ESM. He also exhorted the state govt depts, Banks, Hospitals & Civil agencies to extend maximum support to the Veterans who had dedicated the prime of their lives to the noble cause of our nation through their representatives who were in attendance in the rally.
Maj Gen Virendra Singh, VSM, IGAR (South) said that this rally was not just a single day affair but rather the beginning of the connect with the Veterans through the theme of “We Connect We care”. In the end he thanked all the media reps, state govt and civil officials for their cooperation and attendance at this noble event.

The veterans and Veer Naris were then escorted to various stalls and other facilities established at the venue for their benefit. These included stalls for addressing individual grievances and medical stalls providing not only medicines but also providing special medical facilities to include Cardiologist, Eye & ENT specialist, Gynecologist, Ultrasound etc. There were stalls for Aadhar card and Smart card registration. The State Govt had also established stalls by Horticulture, Agriculture, Fisheries, Industries and Food departments for informative value.
There were military and ethnic stalls showcasing the history, tradition and culture of Assam Rifles. 2 Assam Rifles Band provided a melodious environment to the rally. Mrs Sudha Singh, Vice President, Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association (ARWWA) and other ladies of ARWWA graced the occasion and interacted with the Veer Naris, widows and dependents of AR ESM.
The rally was a grand success and brought together the serving and the retired fraternity of Assam Rifles like never before. Each veteran and Veer Nari went back from the venue re-assured of the care and empathy of the Assam Rifles.
