Apunba Lup mulls protest over July 23 2009 Shoot-out
The Telegraph | Imphal, July 23:
The Apunba Lup today announced a second phase of agitation to demand punishment for the culprits responsible for the death of a pregnant woman, Rabina Devi, and former militant Ch. Sanjit, after waiting two years for justice to be delivered.
The announcement came as relatives and rights groups observed the second death anniversary of Rabina and Sanjit, who were killed in a controversial shootout by police personnel in broad daylight on Bir Tikendrajit Road here on this day two years ago.
“It has been two years. The government has shelved the Agarwal Commission report while the CBI report is in court. Ibobi Singh had promised justice, but has reneged on his promise. We will not remain silent now, and have decided to launch another round of agitation,” Apunba Lup assistant coordinator E. Johnson said.
“First they killed my son and now they are not allowing us to pay floral tribute to my son at the spot where he died. Where is the justice? Until and unless the culprits are punished, we will not rest in peace,” Sanjit’s mother Taratombi Leima said.
