Amnesty hails apex court verdict on extrajudicial killings
Seven Sisters Post | Imphal (Jan 12):
The Amnesty International has welcomed the January-4 order of the Supreme Court to set up an independent panel to investigate six alleged extrajudicial executions in Manipur and urges the state authorities to cooperate with the three-member panel. “The Supreme Court’s order is a first positive step towards battling impunity prevailing in Manipur,” the international human rights organisation said.
The investigation has offered a ray of hope for the families of hundreds of people who were allegedly extra judicially executed in Manipur since the late 1970s, according to the Amnesty International.
