Amnesty International slams lapse in criminal justice system
Morung Express | Dimapur, March 7 (MExN)
Amnesty International India today demanded that members of a mob who lynched a man suspected of rape in Dimapur on March 5 “must be brought to justice urgently.” Expressing concern at the violent turn of events in Dimapur, Shemeer Babu, Programme Director at Amnesty International India said that “this is a serious lapse in the criminal justice system.”
Babu further stated that “Nagaland authorities must uphold the rule of law. Violence against women needs to be tackled with swift and effective responses from the state, not with barbarism by self-appointed vigilantes.”
