Ambitious Northeast tourism projects languish in apathy

They say that the Northeast has rich tourism potentials, but when it comes to exploitation of the very potentials they backtrack and show one of the other pretexts for their non-performance. The tardy pace of implementation of Centrally-sponsored tourism circuit projects in the Northeastern states has negated all tourism potentials that are strong enough to make tourism a sunrise industry in the region.
Under the 11th five-year plan (2007-2012), an amount of Rs77.48 crore for the developmental of tourism circuit, apart from state-specific grant, had been released by the Centre for the implementation of various projects. However, only one of the 11 sanctioned tourist circuit developmental projects is complete so far.
