RGU OBSERVES AMBEDKAR JAYANTI WITH A WORKSHOP ON CHILD RIGHTS LEGISLATION, PIL AND RTI
The 125th Ambedkar Jayanti was observed by the Department of Social Work (DSW), Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) with one day workshop on “Child Rights, PIL and RTI” in collaboration with ChildLine India Foundation (CIF), New Delhi on 14th April 2016. There was an active participation from MSW (Master of Social Work) students along with M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars from various other departments of the University.
The event was co-ordinated by Mr. John Gaingamlung Gangmei Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work. Dr. K. P. Singh Assistant Professor, DSW delivered an introductory speech and welcome the resource persons Mr. Vikram Srivastava (National Coordinator, CIF) and Mr. Abhay Avasthi (East Zone Coordinator, CIF).
Mr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar, Assistant Professor, DSW gave a key note address on life and contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The importance of remembering the Chief Architect of the Republic of India was highlighted. The life and message of “Educate, Agitate and Organise” in the context of contemporary societal context in Arunachal Pradesh emerged as basic theme of the keynote address.

The resources person took interactive session on the urgency of taking on Child Rights issues in the North East Region with the special reference to Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015.
In the post lunch session, the resource person shared insights on drafting and designing PIL and RTI as major tools of a vibrant democracy.
