Aadhar Registration & Distribution Programmes
The importance of Aadhar Card has increased manifold since its introduction in 2012 with a large number of government welfare schemes and services now linked to the individual’s Aadhar number. Taking note of the fact that a large number of people, specially in remote areas, had not registered themselves for this important document, 45 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) extended them help and conducted a Aadhar registration and distribution programme in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology.
In the phase-I of the programme, each Company Operating Base of the Battalion set up registration camps in various villages. Arrangements were made to bring technical experts and engineers with biometric machines & computers to these villages. As a result of timely publicity, the camps witnessed huge turnout of villagers of all age groups coming forward and registering for Aadhar Cards.
More than 600 villagers registered themselves at their register centres established by 45 Assam Rifles. The unit also created a special email address to ensure that the cards are received and delivered to the beneficiaries.
In the phase-II all approved cards were printed and handed over to the respective individuals in the villages by 45 Assam Rifles. The campaign was of great help, specially to elders who did not have the access to internet, email or were ignorant of the procedures to obtain an Aadhar Card.
The locals expressed their gratitude for this initiative of the battalion and are now empowered with one of the most important identity document in coming times. Similar projects are underway by 2 Assam Rifles, 6 Assam Rifles and 5 JAK RIF in their respective areas of responsibility.
