A Child Cannot Decide Its Parent
September 15, 2017:
The present revolt in the NPF against the Central Office of the party is in many ways, a repeat of what transpired in the early part of 2015 when majority of the NPF legislators along with a sizeable number of party functionaries revolted against the Chief Minister and the party leadership.
This time too, in the latter part of July, majority of the NPF legislators “selected” Neiphiu Rio as the “Interim President” of the NPF, served a date line of 15 days for party President of the NPF Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu to step down, and on August 19 re-designated Rio as the President of the NPF.
To refresh the memory of the people, it needs to be pointed out how the NPF party functions. Like all ECI-registered political parties in the country, the NPF has frontal organizations like Youth Wing, Women Wing, Minority Wing, Legislature Wing among others.
It would be absurd for, say, the Youth Wing – having lost confidence in the leadership of the Party President Dr Shurhozelie, and commanding majority of the office bearers – decide to select someone of its choice to become the Interim President of the Party. Same goes for the Women Wing, or the Legislature Wing of the NPF party to select or elect the President of the political party they belong to, the NPF in the instant case.
To further elaborate, every Village in the State has its Village Council under which there are Student Unions, Youth Organisations, Women Organisations, etc. Till date, we have not heard of any Student Organisation in any village, having irreconcilable differences with the Chairman of the Village Council, decide to select a person of its choice to be the Village Council Chairman.
If any Student Organisation in any village in the State had taken such a ridiculous decision to replace the Village Council Chairman in their village, those student leaders would have been laughed at as the perpetrators of the biggest joke, and well-wishers would have arranged psychiatric assistance for the student leaders.
And except in Nagaland, there has never been an instance when a frontal organization of a political party has even attempted to replace the President of the political organization they serve under like the Legislature Wing of the NPF is trying to do now.
After all, a child cannot decide who its father is, or shall be!
