AMCO appeal for peace in Manipur
Times of India | Aug 26, 2011, 12.43PM IST
The All Manipur Christian Organization (Amco) has appealed to the people of strife-torn Manipur to maintain peace in the wake of the the intensified economic blockade and bandh in the hills.
"We further appeal to all organizations - both civil and armed -to promote and maintain peace and peaceful co-existence in the best possible ways," it added.
In the meantime, 83 Imphal-bound passengers, who were stranded in Ukhrul for the last couple of days owing to the United Naga Council (UNC)-sponsored total bandh on all National Highways (39, 53 and 150) in the Naga areas, reached here safely under heavy security cover on Thursday afternoon.
The UNC has been imposing the total bandh since Sunday morning to denounce what it termed as the state government's bid to bifurcate the "Naga areas" to create new districts.
