Ferruginous pochards, an endangered migratory bird species, rescued from a fish farm at Sekmaijin village in Imphal West, have been released at Loktak Lake. Thongam Dilip (45) found 316 pochards trapped in a fishing net at the farm and rescued them on Wednesday, locals said.
Dilip handed over the birds, locally known as Nganu Mitngoubi, to volunteers of the Sekmaijin-based Unique Wildlife Protection Committee ( UWPC) and in his presence, the migratory birds were released at Loktak.
