District Council Act was approved by 20 hill MLAs: H Borajao

Imphal, May 25 2010: Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Act 2008 (Third Amendment) was tabled many times in the State Assembly and was approved by the 20 MLAs of the Hill Areas. This was stated by MLA H Borajao in the 54th death anniversary of the late Angom Porom, the pioneer of Christianity in Manipur held at Community hall at Kangchup foot hill.

The Meetei Baptist Association organized the anniversary function.

Borajao attended the function as chief guest.

He said that the ADC Act, 2008 was approved by all the 20 MLAs of the hill areas.

The indefinite economic blockade imposed on the two NHs is illegal.

This will create a sense of disunity among the various groups residing in the state.

He also said that Angom Porem was a pioneer of Christianity in the state.

He dedicated his life in uniting the people of hills and valley.

President, Meetei Baptist Association, Th Amuba presided over the function.

Mission Secretary, MBC, Rev Alani Shangsir, Social Worker P Brojen and Pradhan of Phayeng Gram Panchayat A Maimu also attended as guests of honour.

Descendants of late Angom Porom and staffs of MBA also attended the function.

General Secretary, MBA, Minister Rev Bhumthak Shilhou unveiled memorial stone of Angom Porom as part of the anniversary function.

Chief guest of the function also release a book on Angom Porom later.

Mention may be made that seven MLAs from Naga dominated hill districts who are the members of the Hill Areas Committee of the state Assembly behind the framing of the MDC amendement Act have submitted their resignation to the Speaker.
