Students mourn Lungnila's tragic demise

Imphal, November 17: In a unique show of solidarity and in a touching gesture, school and college students all over the State today observed a five minute silence to mourn the death of Lungnila Elizabeth, a class III student of Little Flower.

Eight-year old Baby Lungnila, daughter of GAD Minister Francis Ngajokpa was kidnapped by unidentified persons from near her school on November 4 and her body was found stuffed inside a sack on November 12 at Tera Sadokpam Leikai.

As the clock struck 12.45 this afternoon, all the students along with their teachers stood up and observed silence for 5 minutes while praying for peace of the departed soul.

It may be recalled here that ten different students' organization on November 14 had resolved to mourn the death of Baby Lungnila by observing silence for 5 minutes from 12.45 pm to 12.50 pm today.

The ten students' organizations are Paite Students' Welfare Organization, TKS, MSF, DESAM, Hmar Students' Association, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur; SFI, ATSUM, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur and All College Tribal Students' Organization.

Students and staff of Little Flower High School, Imphal, Nirmalabas High School, Imphal Maria Montessori School, Imphal; Children's Ideal High School, Imphal; Praja Higher Secondary School, Lamsang; Ideals' Girls' College, Akampat; Mayai Lambi College, Yumnam Huidrom and Thoubal College, Thoubal; DM College of Science, Jessami High School, Ukl; Imphal Blue Ocean Academy, Keishampat; Khurkhul Model Standard High School; Eastern Higher Sec School, Minuthong Hatta; Oriental College, Imphal; Jawahar Lal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy; SFI, Manipur State Committee, Jiri College, Jiribam in separate releases also informed that they have condoled the death of Baby Lungnila and prayed to God for peace to the departed soul by observing a 5 minute silence today.

Floral tributes to Lungnila: Women vendors of Khwairamband bazar under the aegis of Khwairamband Bazar Nupi Marup today organized a condolence meeting and paid rich floral tributes to the photograph of Baby Lungnila.

Shoppers of various communities also took part in paying their floral tributes on the occasion.

Memorial award of Lungnila: To keep alive her memory, Children's Ideal High School, Imphal has instituted a merit award to be given to the first two rank holders of the school from Nursery to Class IX in the name of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth.

The award would commence from this year and it will comprise of free admission along with a cash award of Rs 500 to the first rank holder and only free admission for the second rank holder.
