Imphal, May 09: The decision taken by the Government to arm villagers of Heirok in Thoubal district of Manipur is a natural process as there has been confusion prevailing among the people to classify the capable and incompetent militant groups, Manipur People's Party (MPP) MLA RK Anand said on Friday while referring to the two contradictory views on the arming of locals by the Government.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in Kwakeithel in Imphal West after the conclusion of his tour program to his (Naoriya-Pakhanglakpa) constituency on Friday, RK Anand said that no one has to be blamed regarding the arming of villagers by the Government.

He pointed out that solution would not make headway as long as there is a confrontation of viewpoints on the matter and asserted that instead the problems will prevail.

While saying that the difference of opinions on the matter should be solved in a democratic way, Anand appealed to fellow politicians not to forget the past instances of Manipur wherein various NGOs have confronted the government's decisions out of compelling circumstances.

He also said that the many protests against militants' activities which have been witnessed in the past indicates that there has been something going wrong with the insurgent movement of the state while appealing all militant groups to reset their agendas and try to convince the people.

On the arrest of the Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) president Sapamcha Kangleipal on charge of sedition, Anand said that the matter has to be investigated properly.

Though he admitted to have not known if there is something behind the curtain over the arrest of Kangleipal, Anand holds the view that discussing the merits and demerits of any government decision are okay in a democratic state.

Further clarifying the charge that there is no opposition party in the Manipur assembly as leveled by many, the opposition MPP MLA said that the opposition parties are looking into a constructive way for the greater interest of the people while maintaining that holding the view that there is no opposition party in the state will be wrong.

Stating that the government should not be blamed alone for any problem arising in the state, Anand also said that the people have to bear with the government in any issue arising from the state as it was the people who elected the government.

He further expressed that the MPP is against President's Rule and added that it would always prefer the state to be governed by elected representatives.
