Imphal, April 04 2010: In the backdrop of writ petition filed in the court of Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench and expressions from the People Democratic Alliance (PDA), Manipur People Party today suggested to hold the elections to the Autonomous District Councils in accordance with the opinion of the people.

In an interaction with the president of MPP, Dr Nimaichand Luwang observed that the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) had not consulted with any other political parties with regard to the conduct of the elections to the ADC which government had decided to conduct in two phases.

It would be a right step for the government to invite suggestions from the political parties particularly based in the hill areas and NGOs before announcing the election schedule, Nimaichand opined.

It is the right of the people of the hill areas of the state to enjoy the rights given under the sixth schedule of Indian Constitution.

State government had also at various occasions given assurance for extension of the schedule in the hill areas of the state.

Informing that PDA had already announced that boycott to the elections scheduled to hold in May of this year.

In such situation, it will not be right step to fix the election schedule in a hurried manner, he observed.
