Imphal, November 24: A bride-groom-to-be was hacked to death by some unidentified persons at Wangoi Muslim Awang Leikai along Imphal river bank, about a kilometre North East of Wangoi police station last midnight.

The deceased is identified as Wahengbam Janeshwar alias Ibochou (45) s/o (late) Athoi of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai.

In a related incident, a young girl was killed after she was knocked down by a police vehicle carrying the corpse of Janeshwar.

Janeshwar was the Head of Manipuri Department at Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal and his marriage had been fixed on December 7 with a girl from Samurou Haoreibi.

Janeshwar went out from home at about 10.30 pm yesterday after some one called him through mobile phone.

However he was found dead along Imphal river bank at Wangoi Muslim Awang Leikai this morning.

Sharp weapon wounds were observed on his head, left ear and chin.

His mobile phone handset was also found missing.

It is believed that the person who called out Janeshwar by phone might be some one well acquainted with the victim.

Consequent upon the killing, a public meeting was held at Wangoi Bazar during which a JAC was constituted.

The meeting resolved to impose a 24 hour State wide bandh on November 26 in case the State Government fails to book the culprits by tomorrow.

It also decided not to claim the corpse until such time.

On the other hand, a girl knocked down by a mini-Tata (MN01/0054) of Wangoi police taking the corpse of Janeshwar to RIMS morgue also succumbed at RIMS.

The mishap took place near Oinam Lamkhai under Wangoi PS at about 10.45 am.

The victim girl is identified as Rebiya alias Oliva (11) s/o Md Oli of Lilong Makha Leikai.

The girl was coming with her aunt in a canter.

Just as she alighted, the police vehicle hit her from behind.

Even as she was admitted to RIMS, Rebiya succumbed at about 11.20 am.

Both the corpses are lying in RIMS morgue with the family members refusing to claim them.
