Chandel A/c has most number of candidates

Imphal, January 24: Scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Manipur state Assembly was completed without significant disturbance at the offices of the designated returning officers of the respective Assembly constituencies today.

According to updated reports, altogether 391 candidates have filed nomination papers for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the sixty Assembly segments in the state.

Reports said the papers of all candidates who filed nominations for the 13 Assembly constituencies in Imphal west district, the 10 constituencies in Imphal east other than Jiribam, the 10 constituencies in Thoubal district, the six kendras in Bishnupur, the six kendras in Churachandpur, and the three kendras under the ADC, Kangpokpi were found valid.

In Tamenglong district, the nomination paper of a Lok Shakti candidate, Gongpansung, was rejected as it was found invalid.

However, the nomination papers of 11 other candidates of the three constituencies in the district were found valid.

Detailed reports regarding conducting of scrutiny for Jiribam Assembly constituency, the two Assembly segments in Chandel district, the three segments in Ukhrul district and Karong.

Mao and Tadubi segments in Senapati district were not immediately available.

It is learnt that 41-Chandel has the largest number of candidates contesting, with a total of 13 candidates in the fray, followed by 49-Tadubi with 12 candidates.

In Imphal west district, a total of ten candidates are contesting in Thangmeiband A/c.seven in Uripok, eleven in Sagolband, six in Keishamthong, six in Singjamei, four in Sekmai, four in Lamsang, eight in Konthoujam, six in Patsoi, six in Langthabal, eight in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, four in Wangoi, five in Mayang Imphal, making for a total of 85.In Imphal east, ten candidates are in the fray in Khundrakpam, six in Heingang, six in Khurai, seven in Kshetrigao, seven in Thongju, five in Keirao, six in Andro, seven in Lamlai, five in Yaiskul, seven in Wangkhei, and eight in Jiribam, for a total of 74 candidates.

A total of 34 candidates are contesting in Bishnupur district, including three candidates in the fray in Nambol, seven in Oinam, six in Bishnupur, five in Moirang, six in Thanga, and seven in Kumbi.

In Thoubal district, six candidates are in the fray in Lilong, five in Thoubal, five in Wangkhem, seven in Heirok, seven in Wangjing Tentha, five in Khangabok, four in Wabagai, three in Kakching, six in Hiyanglam and eight in Sugnu - altogether 56.13 candidates are in the fray in Chandel A/c, and six in Tengnoupal A/c.In Ukhrul district, eight candidates arc in the fray in Phungyar A/c, three in Ukhrul, and six in Chingai A/c.In Senapati district, ten candidates are contesting in Saikul A/c, seven in Karong, five in Mao, twelve in Tadubi, and ten in Kangpokpi and six in Saitu A/c.Three candidates are in the fray in Tamei A/c, another three in Tamenglong A/c and five in Nungba.
