Bandh on extra judicial killing relaxation

Imphal, July 06: The 48 hour bandh sponsored by the JAC against the extra judicial killing of Langpoklakpam Bimol chandra alias Angouba will not cover educational institutions and activities related to education, informed a release.

The bandh beginning from midnight of July 6 is being called to protest alleged extra-judicial killing of L Bimolchandra at Changangei Ucheckon area on July 4 by a combined team of police commandos and 12 MLI.

A JAC statement issued today, apart from conveying decision to exempt educational institutions and activities related to essential services and religious occassions also informed of the Chief Minister 0 Ibobi Singh assuring to look into the matter.

The body nevertheless cautioned that failure on the part of the State authorities to translate the assurance into action within five days would compel the JAC to agitate in a more intensified manner with cooperation of other civil society organisations.

Meanwhile, student bodies Manipuri Students Federation and Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur in separate press statements reiterated their committed stances for exempting education from all forms of agitation.

The student bodies also urged the bandh sponsors to ensure that education related activities such as movement of teachers and students are not disrupted during the agitation period.
