Protesters baton charged, more than 20 hurt

Imphal, November 23: As declared yesterday by the Apunba Lup and the JAC constituted in connection with the killing of Asem Brajamani, a protest demonstration was led towards Raj Bhavan under the banner �Kill us all�.

In a bid to disperse the protesters marching towards the Raj Bhavan to call on the Governor, police baton charged the protesters during which more than 20 women sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The women protesters coming from Tidim road were blocked by police near Central Library complex.

Shouting the slogan �Kill us all�, the huge number of women protesters tried to breach past the police barricade prompting the security personnel to baton charge the protesters.

Following the police action, the protesters dispersed in different directions.

Taking advantage of the situation, police drove back the protesters till Keishampat Junction.

As a result of the police action, more than 20 women sustained injuries.

In the mean time, another group of protesters coming from Phayeng in a mini-bus (Canter) marched towards the Chief Minister�s official residence shouting the slogan �Kill us all� all along.

However, they were blocked near Iboyaima Shumang Leela complex and drove back by Imphal East police commandos.

Meanwhile, assistant coordinator of the Apunba Lup Sunil Karam has strongly condemned the alleged harsh police action against the women protesters.

Nevertheless, as resolved by the Apunba Lup and the JAC, various protest movement against the cold blooded murder of Asem Brajamani will be continued as planned inspite of all attempts to thwart it, maintained Sunil.

In case the State Government fails to come out with some positive to the demands of the JAC even after the protest demonstrations, violent forms of agitation will be launched from November 26.For any untoward incident during the course of agitation, the State Government should be held accountable, he asserted.
