Imphal, September 04, 2010: The hill people too should learn Meitei script and this would be quite beneficial in the long run, exhorted Sadar Autonomous District Council Chairman SH Seipu.

Seipu advised the people of Sadar Hills comprising of Naga, Kuki, Nepali and other communities as well as school authorities to learn Meitei script in the course of an inspection tour of schools located on Sadar Hills-IT Road under the District Council on Sept 2 and 3. He observed that Meitei script can be taught in 120 schools out of 186 schools located in Sadar Hills District Council.

For this, the Government should create necessary posts.

Most of the schools located along IT Road are plagued by many problems such as shortage of teachers, sub-standard infrastructure and irregular attendance of teachers.

Strangely four schools located in Sadar Hills at Maku, Lanka, Phaibon and Topon released the salaries of teachers from Tamenglong while funds for development and other necessities were taken from Sadar Hills.

Phaibon and Topon gave salaries of teachers from Tamenglong while funds for development and other necessities were taken from Sadar Hills.

In view of the acute shortage of teachers at Makui Junior High School, the school has been merged together with Paragon aided school.

The villagers have also hired four teachers.

Moreover, the Government school has been occupied by security forces.

As such, classes are being conducted at Paragon High School.

Sadar Hills ADC Chairman SH Seipu also attended a teachers' day function at T Vaichong Government Junior High School as chief guest.
