Imphal, June 27: Troops of 34 Assam Rifles and PARA (SF) gunned down a PREPAK activist yesterday even as State and para-military forces apprehended one member each of the NSCN (K), KYKL, KCP (MC) and PREPAK from different places.

Claiming the slain individual to be a PREPAK activist, PRO IGAR (S) in a release issued today informed that the individual identified as one Pangambam Angangmacha (19) s/o P Vijay Singh of Kongba Ucheckon Khunou was gunned down by personnel of the PARA (SF) who were deployed in a joint operation with the 34 AR in the general areas of Kharan Ridge and Pourangching Ridge on June 26 morning.

As the joint security team approached the specified area at around 10 am some 8-9 UGs could be observed moving from Pourangching to Kharan.

The troops showing tactical acumen cut off the UGs and pinned them down with accurate fire while the PARA (SF) team pursued the UGs consequently resulting in a fire-fight during which the person was killed, the PRO added.

One lethode with eight rounds and fired case, one pouch and a water bottle have been listed as recovered items from the deceased whose body was handed over to Thoubal police station on June 26 .

The PRO further informed of another team of the 34 AR netting a KCP (MC) activist from yairipok Singda during the course of an operation launched yesterday.

The arrested person has been identified as S/S Pvt L Jiban Singh (28) s/o (L) Ito Singh of Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai.

Jiban was handed over to Yairipok police station today.

A cadre of the NSCN (K) was apprehended by commandos of Imphal East district police from New Checkon area at around 6.30 am today, informed a statement issued by the SP (IE) Th Radheshyam Singh.

The commandos reportedly recovered one pocket diary and a 'written chit' from the arrested person identified as Moshesh Maring (35) s/o (L) Kodum Maring of Karongthen village in Thoubal district.

On verification, Moshesh disclosed that he was an active member of the NSCN (K), the statement added.

The KYKL cadre identified as Pukhrambam Manao Singh alias Lansenba alias Boy (30) s/o P Kumar of Pishum Ningombam Leikai was arrested from Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak by a team of Imphal West police commandos at around 6 am today.

Manao is informed to have joined the armed outfit in 2001 through one S/S finance officer Beganta Singh alias Dine of Sagolband Lai Hanuba Leirak and worked in the finance section of KYKL under Beganta.

A statement issued by the PRO/IGAR (S) today also informed of the 12 MLI troopers nabbing one PREPAK cadre identified as S/S Cpl Maibam Sanjeev Kumar (24) s/o Surendro of Salam Sabal Leikai from the same locality on june 25 where the troopers had launched an operation.

Sanjeev was handed over to Singjamei police station the same day of his arrest.

Meanwhile, two cadres of the PULF (Umar Farooq) group surrendered along with arms and ammunition to authorities of 34 Assam Rifles at Thoubal yesterday, said a release of PRO IGAR (S) while identifying the surrendered duo as deputy chief in-charge of South Area Md Musha Ali alias Moosa (25) s/o (L) Md Rehman Ali of Sora Mayai Leikai and S/S area commander and assistance finance secretary of Yairipok area Md Sher Khan alias SK Liang s/o Md Abdullah of Phoudel Mayai Leikai.

Weapons handed over to the AR authorities included one 7.52 mm SLR with magazine and 30 live rounds, one AK series rifle with magazine and 25 live rounds, added the PRO.
