Scribes take threats complaint to CM

Imphal, May 13: Following the repeated threats issued on the Editor and staff of the Naharolgi Thoudang by some elements in connection with a news stories at Manipur Bhawan Kolkata, journalists of the State under the aegis of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) today highlighted the problem in person to the Chief Minister.

In a statement, AMWJU said that after the Manipur Bhawan, Kolkata was published, the Editor of Naharolgi Thoudang and the staff were threatened by the commandos concerned as well as one Laishram Haridas of Kakwa Naorem Leikai to close down or face the consequences.

Imphal West SP, L Kailun was also present at the meeting with the CM, said the statement and added that according to the SP the personnel involved in Kolkata case are no longer with the police commandos.

As per the SP, the police personnel has applied for leave to go on a pilgrimage, but even before the leave was granted they had taken leave.

Not taking the matter lightly, the CM instructed the SP to find out why the police personnel left before the leave was granted as well as their intention behind the conduct at Manipur Bhawan at Kolkata, said AMWJU.

The CM also asked the SP to ascertain why the L Haridas accompanied the police commandos and to interrogate the two police personnel who are currently under suspension.

AMWJU on its part made it clear to the Chief Minister that Haridas who is not even a police personnel had used extremely threatening tone against the Editor of Naharolgi Thoudang and even decreed that the press should close down.

On his part, the Chief Minister instructed the SP to do the needful so that Haridas, who is reportedly recovering at AIIMS at Delhi do not threaten the media again.
