Imphal, August 10: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a surrenderee at Lamloi Khongnangkhong under Lamphel Police Station of Imphal West district today.

The incident occurred at around 11.40 am near City Montessori School, along the road leading to Mechanised Dye House from Lamboi Khongnangkhong.

The victim has been identified as one Naorem Tejmani (25) s/o Naorem Rajen of Lamboi Khongnangkhong.

He was reported to be a former cadre of UNLF who after surrendering was staying at the barrack of the surrenderees which used to serve as the place for the dog squad of Manipur Police.

Tejmani had been reportedly brought by the unidentified gunmen in an autorickshaw with his hands tied from behind before being shot dead.

Police have picked up the body and deposited it at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

Mayang Imphal protests : In protest against the firing attack by unidentified gunmen at the Mayang Imphal residence of the proprietor of Jemon Gas, Mayang Imphal outlet Kongkham Manglemba on the night of July 23 which has led to closure of the outlet, a public meeting was held at Mayang Imphal Bazar today.

The meeting was organised by Senior Citizens Forum, Mayang Imphal.

Addressing the meeting, general secretary of the Forum Ch Naollo Singh pointed out that the Jemon Gas outlet at Mayang Imphal has stopped supplying cooking gas cylinder to the people after the incident of the July 23 night firing attack at the residence of its proprietor thereby causing lot of difficulties to the consumers.

Describing Manglemba as a person who has always contributed his mite in the developmental works of Mayang Imphal area, Naollo appealed to all concerned not to carry out such attacks and caused fear and panic among the family members in connection with monetary demand.

After a serious deliberation on the issue, today's meeting unanimously adopted two resolutions.

The first resolution categorically stated that fear and panic should not be created among the people in connection with monetary demand and any armed outfit which do not respect the sentiment of the people in this regard would be denounced as anti-people.

The second resolution pertains to urging for re-opening the Jemon Gas extension point at Mayang Imphal in the interest of the people.

Manglemba, who was present at the occasion, fervently appealed to all concerned not to press for monetary demand and use violence while assuring the gathering that he would try to reopen his gas outlet at soon as possible in the interest of the consumers.
