Rally taken out at Chandel, ultimatum served on CM

Imphal, March 31: A protest rally was taken out at Chandel district headquarters today against the killing of two Anal women by unidentified persons on March 21 at Thoubal Khekman Wangma Taba Oinam Leikai.

Moreover, an ultimatum urging the Government to fulfil the points it agreed with the Chandel People's Action Committee (CPAC) was also submitted to the Chief Minister through DC Chandel.

Chandel rally protests killing of two women, demands justice


The CPAC was constituted in connection with the killing of PS Snowy Anal alias Julie of Chakpikarong Anal Khunou and LH Ester of Chakpikarong Charangching.

The protest rally participated by a large number of people belonging to different communities of Chandel started from Maha Union Government High School, Japhou Bazar, Chandel.

The protesters held placards and festoons which read as "Respect women's rights", "Killing women is not revolutionary ethics", "Stop playing communal politics", "We condemn killing innocent civilians" etc.

Moreover, the rallyists while marching towards Chandel DC office complex shouted various slogans such as "We condemn Government's inability to book the killers", "We don't trust the SPF Government headed by O Ibobi", "Book the culprits immediately", "We condemn terrorist activities" etc.

Then they called on DC Ashok Kumar and handed over an ultimatum for further submission to the Chief Minister to fulfil the charter of demands agreed on March 23 at the earliest.

Due to the protest rally, there were very few people in the commercial pockets of Chandel district Hqs.

All the shops remained closed.

However, the rally did not affect educational institutions and Government offices.

There was no disruption to inter-district bus service.

Speaking to reporters, CPAC convenor ST Nunglung said that a massive rally will be organised in Imphal shortly in case the Government fails to book the killers of the two women at the earliest.
