Guidelines for SPOs soon : DG

Imphal, May 15: Director General of Police Y Joykumar has informed that the guidelines of the proposed Special Police Officers (SPOs) is being worked out by the Government and the printed copies of the same would be distributed among the people of Heirok and Lilong Chajing.

Talking to The Sangai Express at his office chamber this afternoon, the police officer said that instructions have been received from the Centre for adopting the same guidelines being followed in Jammu and Kashmir in Manipur as well.

Following the instructions, the State Home Department had already deputed SP of Thoubal District Clay Khongsai and SDPO of Imphal West District AK Jhalajit to Jammu and Kashmir to study the guidelines being followed there.

After their mission, the two police officers have arrived at Kolkata and they would be returning to Imphal tomorrow, the DGP disclosed.

The two officers would be submitting a report to the Government in connection with the guidelines being followed in Jammu and Kashmir after which the same would be taken up for discussion and clearance by the State Cabinet.

Only after passing of the report by the Cabinet, the printed copies of the guidelines would be distributed among the people of Heirok and Lilong Chajing, the DGP added.

The DGP further informed that the results of the physical fitness test conducted for recruitment of SPOs at Heirok on May 5 would be declared very soon.

The DGP explained that the training programme of the SPOs scheduled to begin from May 12 could not take place in time while working out the guidelines following the instructions for adopting same being followed in Jammu and Kashmir.
