Imphal, August 12: The house of a retired Assam Rifles personnel has been burnt down by an enraged mob over the alleged instigation of effecting the arrest of an innocent person by giving false information of having connection with the proscribed PREPAK.

The incident happened at around 2 pm today at Heirok in Thoubal district where the controversy is brewing over setting up of SPOs and boycott of UGs.

According to information received by the press, the house of Moirangthem Bamon alias Pobitro of Heirok Part-I, a retired AR personnel has been reduced to cinders by the enraged mob on alleged charge of instigating the arrest of Ningthoujam Basu s/o Ibocha of the same locality.

Bamon has been charged with giving false information to 34 Assam Rifles that Basu has linked with PREPAK to affect his arrest.

Basu had been arrested by a team of 34 Assam Rifles from his house on August 8 at around 3 pm.

Basu was granted bail by the Court today.

However on seeing the condition of Basu, when he arrived at home, local people were infuriated.

Subsequent to the arrest of Basu, a public meeting held at Heirok on August 8 had strongly decried the arrest of an innocent person.

Along with demanding his unconditional release, the meeting had also resolved to agitate in this regard.

On hearing about the news of setting on fire of the house, Fire Brigade and police personnel including commandos have rushed in.

But the infuriated mob did not allowed them to gain entry.

Pobitro and all other family members have already fled from the house last Sunday, according to another source.
