Imphal, March 09: A suspected PULF activist was gunned down by the Apache Team (motor cycle) of Imphal East police commandos at Kshetri bengoon Awang Leikai under Porompat police station at around 9.30 am today.

The deceased is said to be one Nongyaimayum Renziz (30) s/o Md Abdul Rashid of Keikhu Mayai leikai in Imphal East district.

Dubbing Renziz as an important PULF activist, a police source claimed that Renziz was involved in the bomb attack at the Tuks and Bon fuel pump located in Hatta and many other similar cases for which police commandos had been shadowing him for the last many days.

Besides one .32 pistol, two magazines with 5 live rounds, one 9 mm round and a mobile phone handset, police reportedly recovered three strips of Dexamethasone tablets and driving licence from the deceased.

In the driving license the name was registered as Md fazal Ali s/o Md Rashid Ali of Keikhu Makha Leikai.

Contrary to the police claim, local sources contended that Renziz was picked up from Kshetri Bengoon Mayai Leikai Litan Makhong by six commando personnel in three motorbikes before being done to death.

In protest against the alleged extra-judicial killing women folk of Kshetri Bengoon briefly surrounded the six commandos before arrival of additional forces and bursting of two smoke bombs dispersed the mob.
