UG suspect shot dead by Bishnupur Commandos

Imphal, April 30: A suspected under ground activist has been shot dead by Bishnupur Police Commandos during an alleged encounter which took place at Ngarian Chingkhong along Old Cachar Road at around 2 am today.

According to police, the slain UG is likely to be an activist of the armed outfit PULF.

The family members have identified the slain person as Md Sakin alias Amu (31) of Borayangbi but staying at Hatta Golapati and driving rickshaw for livelihood.

They said that Md Sakin was a former member of PULF.

The police commandos have claimed to have seized one country-made pistol and six rounds of ammunition from the possession of the slain UG suspect.

The body has been picked and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital for identification and post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a 35-year old man was found dead at Khoijuman Mamang Patton under Bishnupur Police Station this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Laishram Brojeshore (35) of Khoijuman Mamang Leikai.

According to police, Brojeshore had gone out from home on April 24 and his whereabouts had not been known till his body was recovered this morning.

One rescued : Troops of 36 Assam Rifles under 57 Mountain Division rescued a man identified as Yaipirel from the hands of the KRA at Kangpokpi yesterday, said PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement today.

The KRA cadre involved in the abduction bid was over powered and later handed over to the police, said the statement and added that the cadre is identified as one Paojalen Singson (28) of Jiribam.

The statement added that the abduction bid was foiled following a tip off and the AR troops along with police were putn on alert.

The KRA cadre was arrested while he was trying to flee on a motorcycle.
