Imphal, January 23: Womenfolk of the Imphal East district made an abortive effort to stage sit-in-protest demonstration in various streets comers of the district today as the already vigilant police personnel swooped down on them and dispersed them from the protest sites.

Hundreds of women in response to the protest called of Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council against any move to disintegrate Manipur's territorial boundary, came out to stage demonstration along either sides of the road stretch from Singjamei Thongkhong to Lilong Bazar.

However, a jumbo State police personnel including IGP, DIGP and SPs of both the two capital districts conducted a whirlwind wheel mission to disperse the agitators.

Besides, mobile police teams also made a swift criss-cross movement at all the street corners.

In spite of the police bandobast, some women protestors, however, reportedly sat on dhama at some spots in Wangkhei areas.

They were however dispersed by the police later.

Talking to reporters the agitated meira paibis of the area claimed that two MAPI members namely Naorem Angouba Singh (35) of Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak and Yumlembam Sharat of Wangkhei Puja Lampak have been arrested by the police from Wangkhei Meihaobam Lampak this morning.

Meanwhile, MAPI Council has strongly condemned the high handedness of the police force.

The police personnel treated helpless women protestors they were their enemies, MAPI Council convenor alleged.
