Imphal, September 15: Suspected UNLF activists shot and injured one Laishram Shantikumar (30) s/o Raghumani of Heirok Part-II Litan Makhong at Thangmeiband Thingel Maru at around 11 am today.

The assailants reportedly called out Shantikumar from his RIMS Road shop (SK pharmacy) for some talks only to be shot at his right thigh a few minutes later.

According to the victim's younger brother L thoungamba (25), two persons claiming to be UNLF members asked for the shop owner (Shantikumar) with one stepping into the shop and engaged his elder brother in a conversation.

Thoungamba reportedly overheard the intruder asking his brother why people of heirok are still staying outside their village and called him (Shantikumar) out for a talk at the same time saying they could have been thrashed for not heeding the UNLF-KYKL warning.

As Shantikumar moved out along with the two youths Thoungamba contacted his brother on the mobile phone who initially conveyed they were engaged in a conversation but on the second call the phone was in switch-off mode.

About 30 minutes later Shantikumar replied he has been shot, the brother narrated.
