Imphal, April 15: A 24-year old youth was shot dead by his own nephew at Sanapat, 8 km east of Mayang Imphal Police Statio at around 7 am today.

The victim has been identified as Md Burhamuddin alias Apik (24) s/o Md Siraj Ahamad of Khelakhong Mayai Leikai.

He was shot dead by his nephew identified as Md Sabir Ahamad (18) s/o Md Tomba who is the younger brother of Burhamuddin's father.

According to information received by the press, there has been a land dispute between the family of Siraj and Tomba for a long time.

Today morning, Md Burhamuddin went to Sanapat to collect fodder for the cattles.

His brother Sikander was following behind him on his way to fishing.

Md Sabir was already at Sanapat hiding with an SBBL gun in hand and he opened fire toward Burhamuddin who was hit by the bullet on his left chest.

Burhamuddin died on the spot.

On hearing about the incident, enraged local people gathered at the residence of Md Tomba and his house made of brick was destroyed and all the properties were taken out and set them on fire.

One rickshaw has also been gutted in the fire.

As the enraged local people rushed in, all the family members of Md Tomba have already fled from the house.

Mayang Imphal Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and search is on to nab the culprit.

Meanwhile, police have picked up the body and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS where the post-mortem examination is likely to be conducted tomorrow.
