Hall owner shot, MTF claims hand

Imphal, May 07: Proprietor of Samuroulakpa Cinema Hall (formerly known as Machu Cinema) located at Samurou, identified as Mutum Damu (58) who also works as a cashier in the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has been admitted to RIMS Hospital after being shot at by some unidentified armed persons last night.

Meanwhile, KCP (MTF) has claimed the responsibility for shooting Damu on his leg.

Chief commander of the outfit, City Meitei said that action against Damu is a warning to the Veterinary Department and in case of failure on the part of the Department to bring about an amicable solution, then more extreme steps would be taken up.

According to police report, Damu was called out from his house at Samurou Bazar under Wangoi Police Station by some unidentifed armed persons at around 10.30 pm yesterday.

His wife had also gone along with Damu at the time of calling him out of the out.

The armed persons however pumped a bullet on the his left calf and left him near the public crematorium of Samurou.

In protest against the incident, a protest was staged by the local people of at Samurou Keithel today.

The protestors used placards with slogans like 'provide us guns for self protection', 'Save the lives of common people', 'We condemn targeting civilians', What was the mistake of Damu ?', etc during the protest demonstration.

On the other hand, the JAC formed in connection with the incident demanded an explanation from group concerned for shooting at Damu and has warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations if the demand is not comply with.
