Identities ot six slain men established

Imphal, July 02: The identities of the six men who were shot dead by security forces at Langol in Imphal West and Nongmaiching Laphupokpi in Imphal East have been established today.

The three persons gunned down at Langol have been identified as Khundrakpam Iboyaima (35) son of late Nodia of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai, Wangkheimayum Tejamani (35) son of late Gopal of Chingakham Kshetri Leikai and Maibam Theba alias Kiran (23) son of Manihar of Kakwa Naorem Leikai.

According to family members, Tejamani and Theba were members of the proscribed PREPAK and were arrested earlier.

At the time of their death they were reporting to the Court and were leading civilian life, they contended.

Theba left home yesterday morning on his Honda Activa, which is yet to be registered while Tejamani left home yesterday for a medical check up, said family members.

On the other hand family members and local people have strongly contended that Iboyaima of Thangmeiband was an innocent civilian.

According to Iboyaima's wife, he left home yesterday with more than Rs 3 lakhs for a contract work.

To protest the killing of Iboyaima a sit-in-protest was held today at his locality followed by a public meeting.

Speaking to reporters, the bereaved wife said that Iboyaima was not connected to any underground organisations.

The other three who were killed at Laphupokpi near Baruni hills have been identified as Chingangbam Tompok (20) son of Sagor of Yairipok Yambem Leikai, his first cousin Chingangbam Bijen (18) son of late lnaobi and Piktru (19) of Jiribam, who is reported to be the handy man of Tompok.

Piktru is a nick name and his real name and address are yet to be verified.

Family members said that Tompok was a tanker driver while Bijen was a mason.

According to the family members, the three had gone to the paddy field of Tompok at Yambem Loukon to clear the field of weeds to cultivate paddy.

After working in the field the three came back together, but since lunch was not yet ready, they went out.

It was only this morning that they came to know that they had been shot dead, said the family members.

While the bodies of five of the six killed have been claimed by family members, the body of Piktru is still lying at RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile the OC of Lamphel police has issued a notice that if the bodies of Ngarangbam Kuber Singh (30) son of Ng Ibotombi Singh of Yourbung Mayai Leikai and Leitanthem Suresh Singh.(24) son of L Ibomcha Singh of Lamdeng Khunou are not claimed within 24 hours, the District Magistrate has been requested to dispose off the bodies.

Ng Kuber Singh was shot dead near ISKCON on June, 30 while L Suresh Singh was killed at Kwakeithel, the same day.

The bodies have been lying at RIMS morgue since June 30.
