Imphal, June 16, 2010: Among other decisions, the national council meeting of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) held at Hyderabad from June 9 till 11 has resolved to immediately demand suspension of the ongoing economic blockade being enforced by All Naga Students' Association Manipur.

A statement issued here, said the council meeting attended by representatives from 18 States voiced serious concerned over the acute shortage of essential items in manipur as a consequence of the All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) blockade since April 12.The session also demanded that authorities concerned establish and deploy 'special road protection force' to protect all national highways of Manipur and North Eastern States.

A joint statement issued here, noted that ANSAM's agitation should not be prolonged for the autonomous district council elections have already been conducted.

The blockade at this juncture is irrelevant for the common masses are the worst effected as prices of essential commodities have soared beyond reach of the general public.

It also noted that NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah's persistence to enter Manipur had been aggravating the already tense situation after Naga community openly welcome the rebel leaders agenda while the major community had been accusing the Centre of indirectly promoting division in the society.

On the national context, the three-day congregation held at IT City charged the Central Government of failure to control food prices, absence of initiative to check violence against women as well as strongly advocating that the UPA Government do not delay in the passage of Women's Reservation Bill.
