Bishnupur police pull up three bandh supporters

Imphal, July 26: Three women supporters of the Tiddim Road bandh being imposed by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of H Somendro Singh and M Somen Singh since 6 pm yesterday have been pulled up by Bishnupur police today.

H Somendro Singh and M Somen Singh, who were from Bishnupur Thiyam Leikai were shot dead by Imphal West commandos on July 14 .

Contending that both were innocent civilians, the JAC has been demanding commensurate punishment to the commando personnel involved in the killing.

The three apprehended JAC members have been identified as Lourembam Nganbi, Khaidem Pramo and Lourembam Pramo Devi.

At about 3 pm, all vehicles travelling along Tiddim road were blocked at Bishnupur Bazar by bandh supporters who were mostly women.

Subsequently, police arrived at the scene and resorted to firing tear gas shells to disperse those women enforcing bandh.

After dispersing the bandh supporters, three women involved in blocking the road were pulled up by police and detained at Bishnupur police station.

On hearing about the arrest of the three JAC members, a large crowd of women came to Bishnupur police station and picketed.

Later, SP Bishnupur K Jayentakumar arrived there and drove away the crowd of women.

Because of the general strike, Bishnupur market and all the shops remained closed today.
